Everyone has heard of the margarita. A most versatile drink, you can order a jug with your buddies at the local sports bar, blend it up at home for a sympathy party for your best friend’s breakup, or sip a tall one by the pool while on vacation.
With varieties such as the Blue Margarita, Margarita-My Honey, and the Ultimate Margarita, the margarita is a cocktail masterpiece.
While the precise origin of this drink is often disputed, all sources point to various border towns in Mexico. The main ingredient is tequila after all.
Besides tequila (approximately one shot per drink) , the remaining ingredients include a dash of lemon or lime juice and usually another mixing alcohol (half a shot per drink) such as Cointreau (orange licuor) or Triple Sec to soften the flavor.
After that, the rest is up to you and your personal drinking preference.
For a simple margarita, pour each ingredient into the cocktail shaker, add ice, shake vigorously, strain and serve with a slice of lime. Or if you don’t own a cocktail shaker, simply mix the ingredients straight into the glass, with or without ice.
For a more impressive margarita, use a margarita blender to combine the ingredients with crushed or shaved ice. Some good margarita blenders are the Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker series. Though they specialize in making the perfect blended margarita, they also make a variety of excellent blended ice drinks. Most people use it as an all around frozen drink maker. Some of their blenders are even sturdy enough for commercial use in a bar or restaurant.
However you decide to have your margarita, don’t forget to edge the rim of your glass with salt or sugar before filling (using lime or lemon juice to help it stick), in order give your margarita not only its charming look, but also its characteristic flavor.
